Charges over house burglaries
Detectives from Glenorchy CIB have charged a 32 year old man from the suburb of Glenorchy with a number of charges as a result of his apprehension breaking into a house in Tolosa Street, Glenorchy yesterday.
Four houses have been broken into in the Glenorchy area since Friday 12 August 2011.
The man was apprehended as a result of information from the public and the work of Glenorchy uniform police officers. One of the officers was assaulted by the male during his apprehension. The officer required medical attention.
The male person appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court today on the following charges:
- Aggravated Burglary (x4) Stealing (x3)
- Assault Police Application for a Family Violence Order Common Assault
He has been remanded in custody to a later date. Police would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their assistance.
It is also timely to remind members of the public to be vigilant with the security of their homes and ensure that all doors and windows are locked and that residences are always left as secure as possible if away from home.
Where possible police would encourage the installation of home alarms as the best deterrent to house break-ins. Police would also encourage the public to report any suspicious activity. Matters can be reported to police via 131 444, “000” if an emergency or via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
