Charges over $100,000 cannabis crop
Police from the Sorell and Dunalley Police stations along with officers from the Southern District Drug Investigation Services have charged a 52 year old Nubeena man with cultivating a controlled plant for sale as the result of a search in bushland at the Lime Bay Nature Reserve, Saltwater River.
The cannabis crops were found by Parks and Wildlife officers on Saturday 2 April 2011. They alerted police who attended the area and located the Nubeena man leaving the Lime Bay Reserve in possession of a large quantity of cannabis.
A subsequent search of the bushland located two more compounds containing more cannabis plants. As a result SES attended to assist with the extraction of the plants as well as providing lighting for the area due to the terrain and hour of the day.
The cannabis and cannabis plants have a conservative value of approximately $100,000.
The man was bailed to appear at a later date in the Hobart Magistrates Court .
Investigations are continuing and further charges are expected to be laid in relation to Parks and Wildlife offences.
