CHARGES LAID IN RELATION TO BURGLARIES

Devonport CIB have today charged two people in relation to a number of burglaries which have occurred over the last week.  These matters involved burglaries of businesses, private residences and the stealing of cars in the Ulverstone, Devonport and Railton areas.  The persons continue to be the subject of an investigation in relation to burglaries in other areas of the state.

A 22 year old female from Launceston was arrested after having being located by police at 4:50 am this morning in Best Street, Devonport.  She was interviewed by officers from the Criminal Investigation Branch and charged with 10 counts of burglary, 13 counts of stealing, 5 counts of aggravated burglary and two counts of motor vehicle stealing.  The female will appear this evening at an afterhours sitting of the Devonport Magistrates Court.

A 23 year old male from Launceston, who initially fled from police, was located an hour later at a nearby residence.  He has been charged with one count of aggravated burglary and one count of motor vehicle stealing, relating to an incident which occurred in Hobart on 28 June.  Investigations are continuing in relation to his possible involvement in other matters.  He was given police bail to appear in court at a later date.

Police are investigating the involvement of other people in these matters.
