Charges Laid – Attempted Robbery of Taxi Driver
At approximately 12:50am on Monday the 11th of June 2012 a taxi driver went to collect a fare at Ruby Place, Ravenswood. On arrival the taxi driver was confronted by two to three young males one armed with a knife who demanded money from him.
The driver activated his emergency surveillance equipment and the youths fled.
The driver was able to leave the street in his taxi without being injured and no money was stolen during the attempted armed robbery.
The offenders were described as male youths. One of the offenders was wearing a grey hooded top and had his face covered with a scarf.
As a result of investigations carried out by members of the Launceston Criminal Investigation Branch, a 15 year old Invermay male has been charged with attempted armed robbery in relation to the matter.
The youth has been bailed and will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court (Youth Justice Division) at a later stage.
The incident is still being investigated and further charges are expected to be laid.
