Police and emergency services were alerted to a structure fire in Gardenia Road, Risdon Vale about 7.30pm last night.

The fire was extinguished by Tasmania Fire Service with extensive damage caused to two units.
Damage is estimated to be valued at more than $400,000.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

A fire investigation has been conducted which has determined the cause of the fire to be deliberate.

A 54 year old Risdon Vale man has been charged with arson and attempting to light another fire in the area. He has been held in custody and will appear in court later today.

The man is known to the occupants of the residences, and investigators believe this is a targeted attack.
