Hobart Police, with the assistance of PD Bernie and his handler, conducted a high visibility patrol at the Hobart Waterfront last night.

Inspector John Toohey said the focus was on creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons.

“Whilst the majority of people were well behaved, it was disappointing that a small cohort of individuals were not.”

“Five people were arrested within 90 minutes during the operation.”

“A 29-year-old Rokeby man was charged for failing to leave licensed premises and resist police, a 30-year-old Midway Point woman for disorderly conduct, a 15-year-old Rokeby boy and a 14-year-old Lenah Valley boy for failing to comply with the direction of a police officer, and a 16-year-old Rokeby girl for damaging property.”

“In addition to this, 17 people were directed to leave the waterfront area by police with two set to receive fines for possessing alcohol in a public place.”

“Tasmania Police is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community through operations like this.”

“We want to highlight the shared responsibility that everyone has to ensure the safe and enjoyable social scene that Hobart has to offer.”

“This won’t be the last time you see PD Bernie out on the town as further patrols will be conducted in the future,” said Inspector Toohey.
