Charges-Devonport Crimes
Detectives from Devonport CIB have charged two youths and a 24-year-old man from Devonport after several offences were reported to Tasmania Police earlier in the week. These offences occurred overnight between 1 and 2 June and related to four stolen motor vehicles, two aggravated burglaries, motor vehicle burglary and the stealing of 5 guitars valued at $11,000 from a residence. Four of these guitars were later located by police in the roof of a Devonport residence.
The outstanding guitar is a black ESP-SV (flying V). It is very unique in appearance and it is believed that it is the only one in the state. Police would like to hear from anyone who may have knowledge of where this guitar is. They can contact Devonport CIB on 6478 4041 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
Of concern to police is that the offenders specifically targeted unlocked vehicles and houses. All of the vehicles and residences were unlocked at the time and two of the stolen vehicles had the keys in the ignition. All vehicles that were stolen were parked off the street in the yard of the residence. Tasmania Police would like to take the opportunity to remind the public of the importance to ensure that they lock their vehicles and residences.
The 24-year-old man was charged with receiving stolen property, motor vehicle stealing and driving offences and was bailed to appear in court at a later date.
A 12-year-old youth has been charged with 3 counts of motor vehicle stealing, attempted motor vehicle stealing, attempted motor vehicle burglary, 2 counts of aggravated burglary, burglary, and 3 counts of stealing and driving offences.
