Charge over burn off fire
On 15 November 2014, members from the Tasmania Fire Service responded to a large fire in the Campania area.
The fire was the result of a landowner conducting burn offs. It will be alleged the landowner failed to take all reasonable precautions prior to the commencement of his burns which resulted in the fire spreading to neighbouring properties.
The TFS utilised significant resources in order to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading any further. An ongoing watch is being maintained in the area to monitor remaining hot spots.
As a result of joint investigations, Tasmania Police will charge by summons, a 62 year old man from Campania with an offence under the Fire Service Act 1979 for failing to take reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of fire.
With the upcoming fire season, it’s a timely reminder for people to be aware of their requirements and responsibilities regarding fires. Anyone seeking further information should visit www.fire.tas.gov.au
