Caution notices issued in bus mall

Police are reminding members of the public to obey the road rules following a number of complaints about pedestrian behaviour in Hobart’s bus mall.

Today police issued 24 traffic infringement caution notices in the Elizabeth Street bus mall, followed by a further seven informal cautions given to youths, after  complaints about pedestrian behaviour.

“We have received a number of complaints from members of the public, including from Metro bus drivers, about people walking in front of buses, jaywalking and failing to cross at designated crossings,” said Acting Inspector Adam Mollineaux.

“Bus malls are roads used by public vehicles and we urge people to exercise caution and cross at the designated crossings.

“Buses are large vehicles and it can be difficult for them to stop suddenly. Today was about educating the public and correcting unsafe pedestrian behaviour.”
