A southern Tasmanian man has had his car clamped by police after a mobile speed camera detected the vehicle speeding by more than 70km/h.

Inspector Jim Semmens said the car was detected travelling at 152 km/h in an 80km/h zone along Boyer Road last Tuesday.

“Police have the power to clamp vehicles travelling at 45 km/h or more above the speed limit, and we are following up with drivers and vehicles that have been detected by speed cameras,” he said.

“Speeding at any level is not safe.”

“Police will continue to clamp or seize vehicles detected travelling at excessive speeds, and we’ll be applying to the court to have repeat offenders’ vehicles forfeited entirely.”

“We are doing all we can to help keep the community safe on our roads, and we need all members of the community to do their bit by following the rules and driving safely.”
