Car crash, Beaconsfield

At 10.12 am this morning (5 September 2012), a Toyota Camry crashed into the reception area of the West Tamar Health and Community Services Centre at Bolton Street, Beaconsfield.

The driver, an elderly lady in her late seventies was attempting to manoeuvre in the car park, when she accidently pressed the vehicle’s accelerator, causing the vehicle to drive straight through the centre’s front windows and into the reception area.  The vehicle ended up completely inside the reception area of the centre.

Fortunately, nobody inside the centre was injured.  The female driver was treated for shock at the scene.

Considerable damage was done to the front of the building and units from the West Tamar SES had to use the ‘jaws of life’ to cut the vehicle from the building before it could be towed away.  Police from Exeter are investigating the crash and at this point in time, no charges have been laid.
