Car backfiring incident
Following information received by the public relating to apparent gunshots heard on Hobart’s Eastern Shore on the evening of Thursday 15 November 2012, investigators from Bellerive CIB are now confident the cause of the loud bangs reported by several callers was the deliberate backfiring of a vehicle and not the deliberate discharge of a firearm.
Several witnesses have come forward stating they saw a small vehicle being driven on the Eastern Shore on that evening repeatedly backfiring loudly creating a loud sharp bang similar to that of a firearm being discharged. A suspect has been interviewed and investigations are continuing.
Police treat reports such as this extremely seriously and would like to thank those who provided information. Police again ask that any person who has information relating to the identity of the vehicle or driver involved in the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
