At 17:35 hrs on Monday the 22nd of February 2016, police were called to the beach area near the Ulverstone Surf Life Saving Club rooms, in relation to a report of people in trouble in the water approximately one kilometre offshore.

Police at the scene were informed that Ulverstone Surf Life members, who were training at the time, had pulled two males from the water about one kilometre north of the surf club.

The two mens, who were both wearing PFD’s, had been in the water for about two hours before being rescued.

The two men had been fishing about three kilometres offshore from Ulverstone when a wave capsized the small aluminium boat.

Both men were treated at the surf club by Tas Ambulance officers before being transported to the North West Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

Police would like to reiterate the importance of using appropriate safety equipment on and around the water when using boats and other water craft.
