Capsized Vessel – Georges Bay

At approximately 2300hrs on 4th January 2015, a Volunteer Marine and Rescue (VMR) vessel attempting to assist another grounded vessel, capsized near Georges Bay.

The VMR vessel “Break O Day” was assisting a yacht called “Kraken” which had become stuck on a sand-spit near Pelican Point, Georges Bay.

The “Break O Day” had capsized while crew members were trying to pull the “Kraken” free.

The Police Vessel “Polsar III” was despatched from St Helens.

Three volunteer crew members on the rescue vessel were assisted from the water by the crew of the “Kraken”. They were in good spirits, uninjured and received dry clothes and warm drinks.

The three VMR crew were returned to shore safely at St Helens by the PV “Polsar III”.

The PV “POLSAR III” towed the “Kraken” off the spit at high tide this morning (0800) and the “Break O Day” has been retrieved by staff from the VMR this morning, without further incident.
