Business Fire – Ulverstone
Detectives from the Western Criminal Investigation Branch and officers from Ulverstone Police are investigating a fire that has caused an estimated $1,000,000.00 in loss of stock located at Harris Scarfe, Ulverstone.
Emergency services were called to a fire at Harris Scarfe, King Edward Street, Ulverstone around 1:20am this morning. Tasmania Fire Service managed to contain the fire to the storage area of the business premises, however property in this area, which included customer lay-bys were completely destroyed. The remaining stock, including items located in the main section of the building was significantly damaged by smoke to such an extent that it can longer be sold.
Police have arrested and charged at 15 year old male with Arson. He was bailed to appear in the Devonport Youth Justice Court at a later date.
Police would like to speak with anyone who saw persons acting suspiciously in the area shortly before 1:20am. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police on 131 444 or by calling Crimestoppers 1800 333 000.
