Bushfire Safety

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the whole of Tasmania for Friday, 4 January 2013. With the weather forecast over the next few days predicting temperatures to reach into the thirties, together with dry winds and low humidity, fires burning will be extremely difficult to control.

The Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) encourages everyone living in and around the bush to review their Bushfire Survival Plan now and be prepared to implement that plan if required. Details on how to prepare a Bushfire Survival Plan, how to prepare your property for bushfires, and other fire safety information can be found on the TFS website.

Bushwalkers, campers, tourists, and anyone heading into rural areas need to be particularly vigilant in ensuring they are aware of their surroundings and have a plan to relocate should a fire occur in the area they are located. In current conditions, campers should refrain from lighting fires and all fires must be extinguished fully and cold to touch before leaving them unattended.
