Burglaries in Sisters Beach area

Police are urging people to lock their cars and to keep valuable items out of sight following reports of at least 12 motor vehicle burglaries in the Sisters Beach area last weekend.

“We have repeatedly asked people to lock their vehicles and yet in this case at least 12 vehicles were found to be unlocked by the offenders and a variety of portable property was taken,” said Det Acting Inspector Chugg.

Three young men and a teenage girl were spoken to by police on Sunday in relation to these offences.

“The offenders relayed that they had no interest in cars that were locked, they were specifically targeting vehicles that were unlocked and had valuable items left visible to passers-by,” he said.

Detectives searched four properties in relation to the thefts and recovered a large amount of property valued in excess of $10,000.

As a result of police investigations, charges were laid against an 18 year old man from Sisters Beach, a 19 year old man from Cuprona, and an 18 year old man from Ridgley.

A 14 year old girl was also charged with possession of stolen property.
