Bridgewater Police have detected two high range drink driving offenders in two days.

At 10:55pm on Friday, a 28-year-old Lachlan man driving a blue Nissan Patrol was involved in a single vehicle crash on the Lyell Highway at Granton. He was taken into custody for the purpose of a breath analysis where he returned a reading of 0.207. He was arrested and charged with exceed 0.05 and bailed to appear at the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

At 12:34am this morning, police detected a red Holden Commodore sedan vehicle driving erratically on the East Derwent Highway at Otago Bay. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle which subsequently evaded police. The vehicle was located in Gagebrook and a 27-year-old Gagebrook man was taken into custody. He participated in a breath analysis where he returned a reading of 0.223. He was arrested and charged with multiple traffic offences including driving under the influence of alcohol, exceed 0.05, disqualified driving, evading police and using an unregistered vehicle. He was bailed to appear at the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date and the red Commodore was clamped for a 6 month period.

“It’s timely to remind motorists that drink driving is one of the Fatal Five contributing factors to serious and fatal crashes on our roads,” said Sergeant Robert Bessell.

“If you’re drinking alcohol never get behind the wheel, we want everyone to enjoy Christmas, so please, get a safe way home.”
