Body found in Launceston river

 

Shortly after 8 o’clock this morning a member of the public reported to police that they had observed what appeared to be a body floating in the North Esk River between the Tamar Street and Charles Street Bridges.

 Police attended and members of the Police Search and Rescue recovered the body of a male person a short distance from the bank of the river utilising a small inflatable craft.

 The deceased male is believed to be a recently reported missing person from the Invermay area. He has not been formally identified at this stage and no further details regarding the person are available at this time.

 From initial investigations his death is no longer being treated as suspicious and the cause of his death will be fully investigated and reported to the Coroner at a later date.
