Boating Fatalities – Ansons Bay
Tasmania Police advise the deceased in the Policemans Point boating incident are: 67 year old man from Norwood 68 year old man from Youngtown.
One of the men was wearing a lifejacket, however investigations indicate he was struggling to inflate it. The second man was not wearing a lifejacket when he entered the water.
A 73 year old man from Youngtown managed to inflate his lifejacket and swam about 500m to shore to raise the alarm.
Another fisherman on shore was alerted by the 73 year old man, and he took his boat out to assist. However when he located one of the men, he was deceased. The body of the second man was located a short time later near the shore.
The 5m boat has been secured at the scene by police and will form part of the investigation in order to prepare a report for the Coroner. Police have not yet had permission from the families to release the names of those who died.
