On Saturday 8 January 2022 about 2.30pm, Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service responded to a boat fire at the Dora Point Camping Area, Binalong Bay.

The fire was extinguished by Tasmania Fire Service crews. The boat, a 5 metre fibreglass cuddy cab, was completely destroyed by the fire.

The boat was anchored at the shore and unattended at the time of the fire. Investigations are continuing into the cause, but initial investigations indicated the fire appeared to have been deliberately lit.

A 21 year old man suffered minor smoke inhalation whilst trying to extinguish the fire. He was transported by Ambulance Tasmania to the St Helens District Hospital to be monitored.
