A 41 year old Penguin man was arrested by Tasmania Police in relation to a burglary and stealing which occurred at the Penguin Sports Complex during the early hours of Tuesday 22 May.  The man has been bailed to appear at Burnie Magistrates Court on 3 July 2018.

Police allege the man forced entry to the premises, causing damage to an exterior door, before stealing a quantity of property from the kitchen and bar area.

A short time later the man was arrested at a nearby address and a search warrant executed.

During the search police located a quantity of property which they will allege was stolen from inside the sports complex.

A second 31 year old man at the address was arrested and charged unlawful possession of stolen property, drug offences, including selling a controlled drug, and firearms offences, including failing to properly store firearms and ammunition.  Police will allege that during the search they located a loaded shotgun beside the bed of the man charged.  He was bailed to appear at Devonport Magistrates Court on 24 July 2018.

Detective Inspector Kim Steven said, ‘Both men charged are known associates of the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang, and both were in fact wearing Bandidos supporter clothing at the time of their arrest, we will continue to target the unlawful acts that the outlaw motorcycle gane members and associates continue to be involved in.”

Investigations are ongoing relating the sports complex and police expect to lay further charges.
