Bag snatch incident

About 12.20pm on Wednesday 23 August 2011 an incident occurred in the Kempling Street Car Park of the Fourways Shopping area in Devonport.  A 79 year old woman was approached by a man riding a push bike who snatched her purse from the handbag she was carrying.

After the male grabbed the purse the woman tried to stop him by grabbing onto the bike he was riding, which caused her to fall.

The male is described as between 40 and 50 years of age, of scruffy appearance, medium build with a light scruffy beard, wearing dark clothing with a dark coloured bike helmet, riding an older style geared bike with a yellow coloured box on a rack at the back of it.  The male fled on the bike onto Kempling Street then onto William Street heading South toward the Bass Highway.

The lady was conveyed to the Mersey Community Hospital for treatment.
