About 12.20pm on Wednesday 24 August 2011 an incident occurred in the Kempling Street Car Park of the Fourways shopping area in Devonport. At that time a 79 year old woman was approached by a man riding a push bike who snatched her purse from the handbag she was carrying.

After the man grabbed the purse the lady tried to stop him by grabbing onto the bike he was riding which caused her to fall. She suffered minor injuries as a result of her fall and was conveyed to the Mersey Community Hospital for treatment.

As a result of information received from the public and the assistance of witnesses, Devonport Police later arrested a 37 year old Devonport man. He will appear in court at a later date on charges related to the stealing of the woman’s purse.
