At 3:08pm today, Police were notified of a crash involving a quad bike, on a track which runs off Newhaven Road at Montumana and into the Shakespeare Hills Forest Reserve.

Police and Ambulance attended the scene and located a 47 year old male, who had flipped his quad bike while attempting to negotiate a very steep section of the track. Despite all efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the man, who was from Sisters Beach, was riding as part of a group. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be contributing factors.

The scene was attended by Smithton Police, Tasmanian Ambulance Service, Smithton SES, Forensic Services and Crash Investigation Services.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
