Attempted Murder-Suicide Burnie
About 5pm on Wednesday 5 December 2012, Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service responded to a report of a fire at a residence in Woniora Road, Shorewell Park in Burnie after neighbours reported loud bangs and smoke coming from the residence.
A motor vehicle was found fully engulfed in flames in the back yard of the address and was destroyed.
A 49 year old man was located at the scene suffering severe burns.
An 8 year old and a 5 year old boy were also located at the scene and suffering from severe burns and shock.
The three were taken by ambulance to the NWRH Burnie, each suffering burns to over 25% of their bodies.
Both children were flown to Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne last night where they are both described as being in a serious condition this morning.
The 49 year old father is being treated at RHH and is in a critical condition.
Evidence obtained from the investigation indicates the fire was as a result of a deliberate act and the investigation continues on that basis.
