Attempted child abduction – Devonport

About 3.30pm on Wednesday 25 July 2012 a 44 year old Boat Harbour man entered a Devonport Child Care Centre and walked into a room where children were being cared for.

The man who was not known to any person at the centre, attempted to remove two children aged two years, purporting to be there legitimately to do so.

The children were removed from the custody of the man without incident and he was detained by staff until police arrived a short time later.  He was then taken into custody and no one was injured as a result of the incident.

The man was interviewed last night and detained to appear at a special sitting of the Devonport Magistrates Court at 8.30pm.  He did not apply for bail and was remanded to appear by video link at the Devonport Magistrates Court today, 26 July 2012 at 2pm.

At 2pm, he was further remanded to appear again on Friday 3 August 2012.
