Attempted Arson Charge

Police have charged a 36-year-old New Norfolk man with the attempted arson of the New Norfolk Police Station yesterday morning.

Police allege the man attempted to start a fire at the station about 7am Friday.

Nobody was injured and minor damage was caused to a front window of the station.

The man has been charged with attempted arson and will appear in an out of hours sitting of the Hobart Magistrates Court today.

He has also been charged with driving whilst disqualified, cultivating a controlled plant, possessing a controlled plant or its product and two counts of failing to appear.

Bridgewater CIB would like to hear from anyone with information about the incident.

Detectives are also continuing to investigate a spate of recent fires in the areas of Blair Street and Kensington Street in New Norfolk, and would also encourage anyone with information to come forward.
