Police are investigating an incident that occurred at a residence in Bugg Street Smithton on the afternoon of Thursday 31 May 2012 during which a man was assaulted.

The 78 year old Smithton man is receiving treatment at the North West Regional Hospital Burnie and is said to be in a stable condition.

A 52 year old Smithton man is in custody in relation to the matter. Police will continue their investigation today.

Both parties were known to each other and the incident appears to have been the result of a dispute.
