Shortly before 11pm on Friday 27 May 2011, Police acting on information received conducted a search of a South Launceston address for a youth who had earlier in the day escaped from private security personnel at the Launceston General Hospital. 

Police conducted numerous searches during the day and evening in the Launceston area, for the youth who had escaped on 27th may 2011 at 10.08am, and was at large for about 13 hours.

Eight uniform and CIB police attended the address and a short time after entering the premises a 16 year old youth was arrested.  The youth was returned to Ashley Youth Detention Centre and is to be charged with escape lawful custody.
