Arthur Highway fatality
A 88 year old man from South Hobart has died after a two vehicle crash on the Arthur Highway approximately 130 metres east of the junction of Nugent Road at Sorell. The crash occurred at about 5.35pm on Thursday 28 June 2012.
The deceased was the driver and sole occupant of a blue Mazda 323 sedan which was being driven in a westerly direction (towards Sorell). The Mazda has crossed over the double continuous white lines and collided head-on with a white Ford Ranger utility which was being driven in the opposite direction by a 40 year old man from Dodges Ferry. The driver of the utility (who was the sole occupant) was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital for the purpose of observation. He was not seriously injured
The crash disrupted traffic for approximately 5 hours whilst investigations were undertaken and the scene was cleared.
The crash is being investigated by Sergeant Rod Carrick from Crash Investigation Services. He would like to hear from any member of the public who witnessed the crash or who may have seen the vehicles immediately beforehand.
