At 3.48am Monday 3 January 2011, Kingston police were on patrol in Maranoa Road when they detected a building fire at the Chicken Feed store. Attending police notified the Tasmania Fire Service and officers from the Kingston Fire Station were able to respond quickly as they were dealing with another fire nearby.

The fire was extinguished without incident. Only superficial damage was caused to the building.

The quick response of Kingston Police and the Tasmania Fire Service averted a multi million dollar blaze at the Kingston Town Shopping Centre.

Kingston CIB has charged 7 adults (aged 18 -25yrs) today with arson as a result of their investigations. They will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in February 2011.
