Arson charge

On Sunday 29 May 2011, Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service responded to a house fire at Andrew Street, New Norfolk.

The fire was extinguished soon after arrival and as a result the house sustained minor damage.  There were no occupants in the house at the time of the fire.  

The estimated cost of damage was in excess of $10,000.

Today (Thursday 9 June 2011) Eastern Criminal Investigation Branch charged a male youth with arson as a result of the investigation into the house fire at Andrew Street.  Investigations are continuing and it is expected that others will be charged in relation to this incident and other structure fires in the Derwent Valley.  

The youth will appear in court at a later date.
