Arrest and Charging re Bridges Brothers Fire

On 19 January 2013 a substantial fire caused significant damage to Bridges Brothers and surrounding businesses in Bathurst Street, Hobart. Damage costs were estimated at nearing $10 million.

As a result of ongoing investigations by the Hobart Criminal Investigation Branch, a twenty (20) year old Moonah man was taken into custody during the afternoon of Wednesday 20 February 2013.

He has since been charged with one (1) count of arson in relation to the fire. He was also charged with burglary x 5, stealing x 4, attempt to unlawfully set fire to property, attempted motor vehicle stealing, and damage to property, all committed in the Hobart central business district during the same morning.  

He has been detained and will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at 10.00am on Thursday 21 February 2013.

Investigations are continuing.
