At 00:50 on Friday 21^st March 2014 a man armed with a knife has entered the Valern Hotel. The man threatened staff with the knife before stealing an amount of cash and fleeing the scene on foot.

A coordinated search of the area by police located a suspicious man near the scene who was taken into custody.

Police later charged the 29 year old man with 1 count of Armed Robbery.  He was remanded to appear in court later today.

The hotel had very few patrons at the time of the incident and the two employees present were not injured.
