Armed robberies Moonah and Derwent Park

Around 1.45pm this afternoon staff in the Derwent Park Pharmacy, on Main Road Glenorchy were confronted by a male person armed with a knife demanding money.  Staff complied with this person’s demands who then left the store.

The Newsagency diagonally across the road has then been subjected to armed demands from a male person who after confronting staff has left following which a report has been received from MacDonald’s Restaurant advising a male person armed with a hatchet has threatened staff within that store.

Attending uniform police have then confronted a male person at the intersection of Derwent Park Road and Main Road Glenorchy and taken him into custody.

It is believed the offender, having left the Newsagency, has then visited K and D Hardware on Derwent Park Road before moving to MacDonald’s.

Investigating Detectives from Glenorchy CIB would like to speak to any person who may have seen a male person dressed in a brown top and blue jeans in the vicinity of Main Road Glenorchy between Amiens Avenue and Derwent Park between 1.45pm and 2pm today.

This person is approximately 6 foot tall and at one stage may have been carrying a small axe, similar to a hatchet.  He could also have had a fluorescent jacket on, at a time closer to 2pm, which he did not have earlier.

The male person detained by police will appear in court either late this evening or more probably Sunday the 17th of March in the morning.
