Apprehension of alleged offender for attempted murder

At approximately 1pm on the 29 May 2010, an altercation occurred at Gagebrook and resulted in a 36 year old man being injured by the discharge of a firearm.  There were two male offenders.

The victim received pellet wounds and as a result was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where he underwent surgery and is recovering.

On 3 June 2010, Jie Lawrence Rainbird (21 years old) was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and wounding, presented before the court and is currently remanded in custody.  He will next appear on the 7 July 2010.

As a result of investigations conducted, at 0630am today 30 June 2010, the second male (25 years of age) of no fixed place of abode was apprehended and taken into custody at Launceston.

He was charged with attempted murder and will appear before the Launceston Magistrates Court later today. 

He was also charged in relation to assaulting an off duty police officer which occurred on the 13 May 2010 at New Norfolk.
