ANZAC Day Security
Tasmania Police has well planned and considered security strategies in place for ANZAC Day and these will be reviewed in response to the events in Victoria at the weekend.
“The community can be reassured that we will have a highly visible police presence around ANZAC ceremonies and parades, based on a threat assessment,” said Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard.
“It’s understandable that people might be anxious, but we need to reiterate that there is no information to indicate a security threat specific to Tasmania,” said Mr Tilyard.
“Our message to Tasmanians is that they should go ahead with their plans to attend ANZAC Day services and marches.
“However we all need to remain vigilant and maintain our focus on prevention and preparedness.
“We cannot be complacent about the risks. Our responsibility is to keep the community safe and to do that, we need information,” said Mr Tilyard.
