Alleged Sexual Assault

About 1.20pm on Monday 30 January 2012 a 23 year old woman was walking along the walking track, that runs next to the concreted bike track, south of Cornelian Bay near the boat sheds. 

Acting Inspector Craig Joel said “a young man initially walked past her and then a few minutes later the man grabbed her from behind and threatened her with a knife.”

The woman was physically forced off the track where she was sexually assaulted, before the man fled.

It is not known in which direction he left.

Acting Inspector Joel said “the woman provided a detailed description of the man.  An identikit image was prepared.”  

The woman received medical treatment after the assault.

The man is described as;

  • 17-19 years
  • Medium build (fairly lean) 
  • Mousey brown coloured straight hair with naturally sun bleached highlights
  • Approximately 160cm tall
  • Tanned complexion
  • No facial hair
  • Australian accent

He was wearing:

  • Dark blue baseball cap (with an orange label of some description on the front)
  • Dark sunglasses (sports style)
  • Blue t/shirt
  • Dark (brown or black) knee length -3/4 length shorts
  • White ankle socks
  • Skate shoes with big laces

Forensic testing and other investigations are continuing.

Police are asking for public assistance to locate the man.  Anyone who might have seen a man matching this description near Cornelian Bay, or catching a bus or walking home before or after the time of the assault, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
