Police are continuing their investigation into an alleged assault upon a 45 year old man aboard the Melbourne bound Spirit of Tasmania last night.

A forensic examination of the alleged scene has been undertaken and the police investigation has found a number of inconsistencies in the version of events supplied by the alleged victim when compared with the evidence available.

The alleged victim has refused to supply a formal statement of complaint to police and now no longer wishes police to investigate the matter further.
