Aggravated burglary charges

Last night Kingston CIB Detectives charged a 30 year old man from Kingston Beach with eleven (11) counts of Aggravated Burglary and ten (10) counts of Stealing. It is alleged that between 10 January 2011 and 10 April 2011 the man broke into eleven (11) houses in the Kingston, Old Beach, Lindisfarne, Moonah, Mt Nelson and Glebe areas and stole cash, laptop computers, flat screen televisions and other valuable property.

All homes were allegedly entered during daylight hours and the value of stolen property was approximately $20,000.  The man was charged and remanded to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court today.

Many of the homes in this case were not alarmed, nor were there dead locks fitted to doors and windows.  The majority of the property stolen was not marked or engraved.

Police would like to take this opportunity to remind people to be vigilant for suspicious behaviour and consider the overall security of their home.  Taking steps such as engraving or marking movable items of property, improving lighting around the home, installing deadlocks and home alarm systems can minimise the risk of becoming a victim of home burglary.

Police are interested to hear from anyone with information about these or other crimes.  People with information are encouraged to advise their local police on 131 444 or telephone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
