Aggravated Assault, Invermay

At 5am Wednesday 5 September 2012 police were called to a unit in Invermay Road, Invermay in relation to a male who had been seriously assaulted.

The male was taken by ambulance to the Launceston General Hospital where he remains in a stable condition with serious facial injuries.

The male had been assaulted by two other men known to him who were at his unit.  The men had demanded his bank card to get money off him and assaulted him to get it. One offender then went to a bank automatic teller machine in a taxi to try and get money from the victims account.  After being unsuccessful the male returned to the unit and both again assaulted the victim then took him in a taxi to the get the money out.  One offender then withdrew money from the victims account and they all drove to a house in Ravenswood where the two offenders left and the victim took the taxi back to Invermay where he called an ambulance.

Launceston CIB and Uniform members located and arrested both offenders at different times during the day.

A 32 year old Invermay male was charged with aggravated robbery and will appear in the Launceston Court of Petty Sessions at 8pm tonight.

The second offender a 30 year old Kings Meadows male is currently in custody and will be formally charged with aggravated robbery tomorrow.
