Police from Southern Road and Public Order Services conducted a speed reduction operation on the Southern Outlet, Hobart between 9:00am and 12:30pm today.

Senior Sergeant Justin Lawson said 41 drivers were issued speeding infringements during the operation.

“One man was caught travelling at 131 km/hr, which is more than 30km/hr over the limit,” he said.

“He will receive a penalty of 5 demerit points and a $516 fine, narrowly avoiding his vehicle being immobilised and immediate disqualification from driving.”

“One third of the infringements detected today were greater than 20 km/hr over the posted 100 km/hr speed limit.”

“Speed limits are there for a reason and disobeying the limit puts all road users at risk.”

“In the interest of public safety, police will be continuing to enforce speed limits in both high-visibility and unmarked patrols across Tasmania.”

“We’re asking all road users to do the right thing, and keep everyone safe on our roads.”
