40 drivers caught high range speeding – Midland Highway
A total of 40 drivers have been caught high range speeding on the Midland Highway in a two hour police operation today.
Senior Constable Drew Redburn, of Southern Rod and Public Order Services, said that 40 drivers were detected speeding by at least 15kmh over the 110kmh speed limit on the Midland Highway north of Bagdad.
“One driver was caught travelling at 137kmh overtaking another vehicle travelling at 125kmh,” Senior Constable Redburn said.
“This is particularly concerning given today’s weather, with heavy rain in the north and north-west, and rain predicted statewide.
“This is a reminder for all drivers to obey the speed limits – and this applies even when you’re overtaking another vehicle.”
All 40 drivers will receive a Police Infringement Notice and lose demerit points.
“Tasmania Police wants to remind the community that the current ‘We’ve Been Everywhere’ road safety campaign aims to encourage safe road use by promoting the high possibility of being caught if driving unsafely and the fact that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
“We want drivers to slow down – it’s for their safety and the safety of all road users.”
