26 Barring Orders and 13 Infringements issued during targeted Hobart CBD licensed premise patrols in April
In a concerted effort to enhance public safety in the Hobart CBD, Tasmania Police, throughout April, had a specific focus on patron behaviour within licensed premises.
Inspector John Toohey said the focus was about creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons.
“The Southern District Licensing Unit, in collaboration with licensed venues, issued 26 barring orders and issued 13 infringements throughout April.”
“Barring orders are an essential tool in protecting the community by stopping individuals from entering licensed premises where their behaviour poses a risk to public safety or breaches liquor licensing laws.”
“Barring orders may be issued when a person is at-risk as a result of drinking alcohol; if they have committed an offence or behaved in an offensive or disorderly manner on or near a licensed premises; or there are reasonable grounds to do so.”
“Infringements were issued for offences including act in violent, quarrelsome, disorderly manner on licensed/permit premises; person subject to Barring Order enter or attempt to enter relevant licensed/permit premises; and fail to leave licensed premises when required to do so.”
“Tasmania Police is committed to working closely with licensed venues to ensure compliance with liquor licensing legislation, as compliance not only protects patrons but also contributes to the overall safety and well-being of the community.”
The focus will continue.
