$1million Ice seizure at Hobart Airport
During ongoing searches, linked to sound intelligence, members of the Tasmania Police Drug Dog Handling Unit yesterday arrested a man at the Hobart International Airport with a trafficable quantity of crystal methamphetamine (Ice).
A 31-year-old man from Gagebrook in Tasmania, was found to have 1 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine concealed in his underpants. The street value of these drugs is estimated to be approximately $1,000,000.
The man was detected disembarking a flight direct from Sydney.
The man was been charged with Trafficking in a controlled drug and was detained to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Saturday 25 August 2018.
Recent police intelligence and arrests reinforce the view that illicit drugs are being imported into the state rather than being manufactured locally.
Tasmania Police will continue to act on intelligence gathered and work with other law enforcement agencies to successfully interrupt drug trafficking through sea, air and mail into the state.
Our aim is to protect the community from the harmful effects of illicit drugs.
