1978 Disappearance Investigation update
Police receive information in 1978 cold case disappearance
Detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding the 1978 disappearance of Darlene Avis Geertsema’s have received a pleasing response from the public following the release of photographs of Ms Geertsema and her red Holden Torana Sunbird on Friday.
Ms Geertsema was last seen leaving her family home in Devonport on Monday 23 October 1978 at around 10.30pm in her 1977 red Holden Sunbird registration AS4119. Police now believe it is unlikely Ms Geertsema’s disappearance was voluntary and it cannot be ruled out that she may have been the victim of a crime.
Detective Senior Constable Felicity BOYD from the Devonport Criminal Investigation Branch stated “We appreciate the information provided by the public, particularly in relation to Ms Geertsema’s vehicle and we will be pursuing every line of enquiry.”
Police have recently re-interviewed a number of people who were involved in Ms Geertsema’s life, including a 67 year old man from Westbury who was in a significant relationship with Ms Geertsema at the time of her disappearance.
Police encourage anyone who has information relating to the disappearance of Ms Geertsema or about her vehicle to contact Devonport CIB on 6478 4036 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
