0.179 Dangerous Driving between Devonport and Spreyton

Police are appealing for anyone to come forward who saw a grey Suzuki Swift being driven dangerously between Spreyton and Devonport at about 3pm on Tuesday this week.

The driver, a 52-year-old woman from a town near Westbury, was arrested and charged after blowing 0.179 on the breathalyser, more than three times the legal limit for blood alcohol content.

Police intercepted the woman after a concerned member of the public flagged down a passing police vehicle and alerted officers to the dangerous driving.

Investigating officer, Constable Bobby Gray said:

“Drink driving is putting lives at risk, no question about it.

“The woman who flagged down the patrol car was almost in tears because she was so concerned the dangerous driving she’d seen was about to cause a serious accident.”

There was no time to take the witness’ details at the time as the first priority was to intercept the vehicle.

“We’d like to speak to anyone who saw the Swift that day to help us build a stronger case for prosecution,“ Constable Gray said.

“We’re extremely keen to talk to the woman who flagged down the police car.”

The driver of the Swift has been bailed to appear at the Launceston Magistrate’s Court at a later date.

Anyone who has information about the dangerous driving incident is asked to contact Constable Bobby Gray of the Devonport Police Station on 6478 4011 or 131 444
