The Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management (inclusive of Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service, State Emergency Service, and Forensic Science Services Tasmania) is responsible for delivering quality policing and emergency services in Tasmania.

An important part of delivering those services is ensuring that Tasmania has contemporary laws designed to keep the community safe. The Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services is the responsible Minister for legislation that impacts on how the Department delivers services.

Strategy and Support is a business unit within the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management that is responsible for managing, developing, and consulting on current legislation and proposed legislative amendments.

Consulting with stakeholders and the community is an important part of the legislation development process. Consultation aids in engagement, community awareness, assists in providing critical analysis of relevant issues, and provides an important opportunity for the community to contribute to legislative development.

To improve community engagement, Strategy and Support maintains a notification list to alert the community and stakeholders that new legislative proposals have been released for consultation. Documents can then be accessed and reviewed by interested parties.

If you would like to be included in the notification list for future consultation matters, please send an email to Submissions.Strategy.Support@police.tas.gov.au with your request to be added to the notification list.
